Microsoft officialy bought skype

The acquisition has lasted over five months, as the computer giant needed the green light by U.S. and European antitrust institutions. With this move, Microsoft has actually made the largest purchase in its entire history. Computer giant Microsoft acquired Skype for $8.5 billion.

Skype and Microsoft have for the future very ambitious goals, which they intend to reach one billion users per day. Microsoft will include Skype technology in all its key products and services, like Windows Mobile Phone, game console and Xbox Live online service.

At the operational level, Skype company has become a "department" of Microsoft. Skype, whose software allows both free voice over the Internet and a cheaper conversations in mobile and fixed networks will continue to be led by Tony Bates, who will report all results Steve Ballmer.
